End of 2008 - Things I learned

This is a personal review Post rather then something related to SEO so you guys can skip it, if you want
So 2008 is about to end in few hours time and this was my first year working full time. It was full of ups and downs and though I certainly could not achieve most of my goals, I can certainly take lot of positives from my failures and inability to perform better. Not to mention, the enormous amount of knowledge which I had acquired in past 12 months. Since the first year is always the hardest, I guess I did alright and will certainly do better in 2009. Here are some of the things which I have learned in 2008 (I am just writing as they are popping in mind)
What I learned in 2008
1. You can’t set any arbitrary goals, just because you want something and you have 365 days to achieve it, this don’t mean you will achieve it. There are way too many parameters involved which are beyond your control. Also you can’t set goals for something which you haven’t done before, like you can’t set a goal of making $100k in 2009 with affiliate marketing if you haven’t even made $1000 in 2008 and don’t understand all the aspects of affiliate marketing.
2. Keeping yourself motivated is not easy.
3. There is no such thing as making “easy money” in long run.
4. You need to be highly adaptable, things can change in matter of days and all your effort of months can become meaningless
5. Work Smartly as there are only 24 hours in a day.
6. Making first 1000/month or 2500/month is the most difficult part. After that things will get easy.
7. Don’t build websites, promote products or just sell links. Focus on Building a business!
8. Set both, short term and long term goals, You need money now, and you also need money in future. Ideally you want to save a certainly %age of your earnings and spend the rest to build your business and assets.
9. Test Things before putting lot of money on any idea, because if you don’t do test, you can easily lose lot of money in no time.
10. Learn to manage money because if you can’t manage money, you will never have money. Just because you have money doesn’t mean you have to spend it.
11. Money Leaks!!!
12. Peace of Mind is more important then Money and various material things.
13. Even if you are making Million dollars a year, there will always be some people more luckier then you making more money then you, so don’t waste time in comparing yourself to others since the chances are, you can never be the luckiest guy or richest guy in the group. You really don’t want to waste the best years of your life trying to be the richest and successful guy in the group, you just want to cross a threshold, after that, money and success becomes meaningless.
14. Success Don’t come overnight. Those who says they have become overnight success are either lying or are luckier then you, you can’t do anything for any of the two. Read Point 13.
15. Luck exist, but you can’t change it, so accept everything instead of denying things. Read Point 13.
16. You are not that unlucky or poor as you think you are, and others are not that rich or lucky as you think they are.
17. Being Rich and Wealthy is a state of mind.
18. Happiness lies in the answer of this question - Will you be doing the same thing which you are doing right now, if today is the last day of your life ?
So that’s it, This is the last post of 2008 and it has to be the most honest post I have ever written.
Wishing you a Happy and Prosperous 2009.

Good tips/lessons. I’d have to agree with them, especially point three. In the long run, which is what you should be looking at for online sales, making money takes time and effort.
