List of Free Content Resources

If you are a marketer, then probably you are always looking for fresh content which can by syndicated to drive traffic to your site. The only problem is, it can cost you a lot to hire a writer and give him a 100 articles work. So I just thought of putting a list of free content resources which you can use to build quick content sites or ebooks -
These resources offer content which can be freely use (in edited or non edited form) for your own purposes. So now you don’t have to pay writers heavily!
1. Project Gutenberg - Whenever you are talking about free content, Project Gutenberg will always come at the top. They have listed thousands of books and content in online format (mostly text) which fell under public domain. Though most of the content is books but if you use your creative juices, you can certainly get something from it.
2. Wikipedia - All the content under wikipedia is licensed under GPL and you can use it and edit it as you like. Wikipedia content can be used to create great ebooks which can be used as giveaways for signups. You may like to noindex the pages using robots.txt though as you don’t want to associate your website with copied content.
3. Article Directories - Websites like ezinearticles and other article directories offer free content which can be used without modifications. You can certainly use this content and mix it with your unique content to make some good resource websites.
4. Data Feeds of Affiliate Programs - Many affiliate programs like CJ, Performics and Linkshare offer feeds of their offers which can be used as content to built websites. You may like to check http://www.abestweb.com/ to know more about such affiliate feeds and how you can use them.
5. RSS Feeds - You can use RSS feeds of various sites to build your own content. Search at Blogline or syndic8 (their are tons of search engines for RSS feeds, you can use google blog search, live, yahoo or technocrati too)
6. Press Releases - You can use free press releases of PRWeb from http://newspad.prweb.com/ on your website. You can check our previous post on the list of Free Press Release websites to get listing of PR sites. Do check their usage policy though as I am not sure all will allow to use Press releases.
7. Get Free Photos - For Free Photos, you can get them from http://www.sxc.hu/ (you won’t own the copyright though). Their are few more sites too which give low resolution loyalty free photos.
I hope this list helps people and give them more ideas to find more free resources of content. Do note that the only downfall of using such resources is the content is not unique so you won’t rank in search engines but since search engines “only” drive 2/3rd of web traffic, may be its good idea to focus on the 1/3rd part of the web with this free content
Cheers and Have a Nice Day
